I'm Meredith, the one woman show behind the scenes of Amity’s Maine.
Pisces sun Pisces moon Taurus rising, in my fifth decade of life still figuring out how to be human. GenX black sheep pacifist crybaby little sister, College of Forestry drop out, business owner who single-mothered in Austin Texas after helping create a solar installation company in the late ‘90s, who later raised a blended family in an off grid yurt in Western Maine before putting down roots on a rocky Maine island three miles out to sea.
Threw myself at the feet of the gods when I survived bone cancer at age 41 and taught myself printmaking which became my life's work after stepping down from my position as editor and let go of my freelance writing career. My words and photographs have been published in over twenty magazines. I’ve taught photography workshops, sewing classes, and block print workshops all the while accidentally growing a vintage shop in my attic because old things are worth rescuing. I'm a midcentury maximalist at heart. My passion is designing and printmaking, and my handprinted textiles blend well with a vintage home.
My business hours work with my time spent in my printmaking studio. When my storefront is closed, you'll find me carving new blocks, printing textiles, sewing, and sourcing fresh catch and release vintage for the shop. Amity's re-opens each Friday and vintage inventory is restocked daily. You might see me cleaning housewares, pricing clothes, or drawing new designs at the register.
After a lifetime of collecting history, I started selling vintage at markets in Maine because it’s something I absolutely love. Just last year I changed the name of my vintage shop in honor of my mom, so I can one day hear people say “Let’s stop by Amity’s!” and her spirit lives on and on and on.
Amity, as you know, means friendship. It’s nice to meet you!
